TheGeneral Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and International Center for InterdisciplinaryStudies (Centro Internacional de Estudios Interdisciplinarios - CIESI)offer scholarships to qualified candidates from the Americas to develop theirprofessional development through the following program:

I. About the Organization of American States(OAS) and International Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CentroInternacional de Estudios Interdisciplinarios - CIESI)

1.1.  The General Secretariat of the Organization ofAmerican States SG/OEA Is the Central and Permanent Organ of the American States Organization. The GS/OAS, through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment-DDHEE-, assists Member States in the creation and realization of programs that promote human development in all education levels. The DDHEE strengthens democratic values and security under the framework of regional integration, promoting training opportunities to educated citizens in order to support the efforts of Member States to improve the quality and equity education. DDHEE highlights Member States’ contribution- through their different cultures- to the economic, social and human development of their people, supporting to Member States citizens to reach their potential, giving them access to knowledge and skills through educational training, improving their living standards.

1.2. InternationalCenter for Interdisciplinary Studies (Centro Internacional de EstudiosInterdisciplinarios - CIESI)  CIESI is a civil association. CIESI’s purpose is to grant opportunities for education andtraining in the framework of sustainable development to all citizens of LatinAmerica. The aim is to contribute to the development of Member States, throughthe strengthening of human capital.

II. About the Program:

Thecourse will introduce to the participant concepts and issues of climate change.Participants will obtain a general base about causes and effects of climatechange in tropical forests, as well as alternatives for its mitigation andadaptation. The course will be divided into ten modules. In each module, studentsmust develop practical work also they will be part of the forums discussion anda weekly test of self-assessment. At the end of the course, students must developa Final paper.

2.1. Aim:

At the end of the course:

·      Students would have obtainedgreat knowledge on climate change, global warming and the greenhouse effects.

·      Students would havelearned about the natural vulnerability, physical and environmental in tropicalforests.

·      Students would have learnedeffective strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change, to finally applyin the tropical forests promptly.

2.3.  Teaching methodology:

The program is developed on the basis ofinteractive teaching methodology; it demands the effective participation of themembers in the discussions and questions that are asked from forums and othersynchronous and asynchronous tools from the virtual campus

All contents are linked with appliedtheoretical frameworks; this implies practical content with potentialapplication and reference for decision making and personal growth.

Skills and competencies are developed in thediscussion about conceptual frameworks and are dependent on the application ofthe case method and the course’s final project

2.3.  Course Contents: The course is ten modules distributed over 3months, total charging time: 400 hours.

III. About the scholarships

3.1. PartialScholarships

CIESIwill cover 50% of the total scholarship cost and the beneficiary will beresponsible for the payment of 50% remaining, US$500.00.

The beneficiary will  make this payment directly  to CIESI through  international bank transfer, Money Transfer [WesternUnion], credit cards, through PayPal until 1 day prior to the beginning of thecourse.

NOTE:Not SG/OEA or CIESI will not cover the remaining 50% of partial scholarshipprogram cost. It must be the exclusive responsibility of the OAS-CIESI beneficiaries.     

Important:Prices include diploma,certificate and shipping to their country of residence.

3.2.Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a citizen orpermanent resident of OEA’s Member State[1]  (Residents must send a copy of the visa).With the exception of Perú,  since is thehost country.
  • Must have academicdegree especially in Social Sciences, Biological Sciences and Engineering Agriculture,Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Biologists, Technicians, Communicators, Educators,Environmental Engineers, Architects, urban planners and other related careers).  Anyonewith an interest about the subject.
  • One yearof experience in the study field.
  • Command ofEnglish, duly accredited by submitting a certificate evidencing the applicant’sproficiency in a language other than mother tongue. This mandatory requirementis strictly enforced, and we discourage applicants who do not fulfill thisrequirement, unless English is the mother tongue of the applicant.
  • Self-regulation (highdegree of discipline, responsibility, independence and tenacity) timemanagement. Non-verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in processor oftexts, internet and email.
  • Submit a copy of the degreeor diploma.
  • Curriculumvitae, not documented (without any documents like certificates, diplomas, etc).
  • Submit the completedapplication before the established deadline by the respective National Organization(ONE)[2]. Candidates are responsible to check this date in theirrespective ONE.

3.3. Scholarship Application Restrictions:

·        Citizensor permanent residents of the country of study, in this case Peru, are noteligible for this scholarship.

·        Ifyou have received a scholarship from the Professional Development Program inthe last twelve (12) months, or if you currently have an academic scholarship,you are not eligible for this scholarship.

3.4. Required Documents:

·        CurriculumVitae not documented.

·        Ascanned copy of the degree.

·        OEA’sscholarship application form.

The deadline for the submission of applications to the ONE differs fromone country to another and must be confirmed with the corresponding ONE in theirrespective country or permanent residence. It is the responsibility of thecandidate to find out the date set by the ONE.

3.5  SelectionCriterion for Scholarships:

 The scholarships will be awarded in accordance with the followingcriteria:

·        The meritsand General credentials of the candidate, including the academic profile,experience working in the field of study and potential impact to yourinstitution, community or country.

·        Anextensive and equitable geographical distribution for the benefit of all MemberStates, considering the most urgent needs of the smaller and relatively lessdeveloped economies.

3.6  Beneficiary Responsibilities:

·        Allrequirements indicated in section III.2 of this notice.

·        Must confirmyour acceptance of scholarship by signing and returning to the DHDEE the"Scholarship Acceptance Form" DHDEE, as well as fill three surveysthat the DHDEE will send to you promptly.

·        Mustinform the DHDEE a week before the start of the course, (if it is not possibleto start the program of study), in order to grant that scholarship to the nextcandidate in merit order.

·        Must haveaccess to the computer.  The communicationscost (access to Internet and email) are paid by the student.

·        Computer:you should use the latest versions of browsers. Internet access: You must haveaccess to the network from their place of work or your home. The minimum speedModem is 28.8 kbps. Browser: The browser that you use is very important. Thee-learning platform requires a browser that allows using Java, Javascript. These options must be enabled in your browser.
