APPLICATION FORM FOR THE OAS-GRUPO COIMBRA DE UNIVERSIDADES BRASILERAS(GCUB) SCHOLARSHIPS 2013

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Be aware that this Application Form must be completed online in its entirety before you exit the site or before you submit it. The information entered cannot be saved to continue in future sessions.

Before you start, please make sure you have all the required documents, scanned and stored up in one (1) single PDF file of 5MB maximum size (the system will not accept files that overpass this size)

a.   Copy of official identification document
(National ID, passport’s main page, birth certificate, voter registration card)

b.   Curriculum Vitae (Resumé)
(Maximum 4 pages. It is not necessary to attach supporting certificates other than the ones mentioned here)

c.   Academic Transcripts
-   Applicants to master’s: full transcripts of the undergraduate program
-   Applicants to doctorate’s: full transcripts of completed master’s and/or doctoral program(s)

d.   Diploma *
-   Applicants to master’s: : diploma of the bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent)
-   Applicants to doctorate’s: diploma of the master’s or doctoral degree(s)
* If your diploma is being issued, you may attach a certificate issued by the university confirming that you have completed all program requirements (including submission and defense of graduation papers/exams, if applicable) and the expected date in which the degree will be awarded.

e.  Two (2) letters of recommendation
Properly signed (preferably on institutional letterhead) before scanning.  References must be preferably university professors or other people of renowned expertise

f.   Three (3) Essays with the following specifications:

o  Line spacing: 1.5
o  Top, bottom, left, and right margins: 2.5 cm
o  Font type: Times New Roman, No.12
o  Language: English, Spanish or Portuguese

  • Text 1:  Academic expectations and interests, professional expectations and prospects upon return to the country of origin (maximum 2 pages)
  • Text 2: (see the following different specifications for Master’s and Doctorate programs)
    - Master’s: justification for choosing each of the master programs and universities; the main topic that will be researched during the studies, the definition and justification for the research topic and the basic procedures and methodology that will be used to conduct the research (minimum 3 pages - maximum 4 pages).
    - Doctorates: justification for choosing each of the doctoral programs and universities, the main topic that will be researched during the studies, the definition and justification for the research topic, bibliography or literature review, methodology, timeline and bibliographical references (minimum 5 pages - maximum 8 pages).
  • Text 3: Letter of commitment (maximum 1 page) describing each of the following aspects:
    a) Source(s) of funding and a plan to pay for the expenses not covered by this scholarship. (i.e. airfare, international medical insurance, additional subsistence expenses, visa fees, etc.)
    b) Ability to relocate to Brazil before the expected start date of the program and to reside there for the length of program of study (2 or 4 years)
    c) Awareness of the implications of accepting this scholarship (i.e. resigning a job position, leaving family and friends, etc.)
    d) If the applicant intends to relocate to Brazil along with family members (children, spouse, etc.), describe the sources of funding that will be used to support these individuals.

Important:
- Any Documents that are not included in your PDF file cannot be added by the OAS/GCUB after you submit your application, and therefore will be considered incomplete. If you still need to make changes in your application form after having submitted it, you must start a new one. Please try as much as possible to submit your complete application once.

- The OAS will not be responsible for any possible technical problem in trying to submit applications during the last week before the deadline: August 14 2013 until 5:30pm in Washington, D.C. (EST).  

IMPORTANT NOTE: The organizations involved in this Call for Applications are not responsible for any system traffic issues that may occur while completing the online application form during the last week of this scholarship contest. Therefore, it is recommended that the application is completed well in advance of the deadline.
