About the OAS and RIT

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States

GS/OAS is the central and permanent organ of the Organization of American States (OAS). Through its Department of Human Development, Education and Culture (DHDEC), GS/OAS supports OAS member states in creating policies and executing programs that promote human capacity development at all educational levels. By enabling formative opportunities to citizens, DHDEC strengthens democratic values and security under the framework of regional integration. DHDEC does this: (i) by supporting the efforts of OAS member states to improve the quality of and equity in education while enhancing and highlighting the contribution of their diverse cultures to economic, social, and human development; and (ii) by assisting the citizens of the Americas in realizing their full potential by giving them access to knowledge and skills through training that improves the standard of living for individuals, families and communities in the region.

Rochester Institute of Technology

RIT is a nationally respected leader in professional and career-oriented education. Talented, ambitious, and creative students of all cultures and backgrounds—and from 50 states and more than 110 countries—have chosen to attend RIT. Few universities provide RIT’s depth and breadth of career-oriented studies. RIT’s nine colleges offer more than 90 different bachelor’s degree programs in art and design, business, engineering, science and mathematics, criminal justice, photography, environmental studies, hospitality and service management, computer science, information technology, bioinformatics, and many other areas. As a major technical university, RIT offers academic opportunities that extend far beyond science and technology, including more liberal arts courses and faculty than you will find at most liberal arts colleges. With a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences, students will gain an understanding of both technological developments and the philosophy and ethical issues that go with them.
