The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States

GS/OAS is the central and permanent organ of the Organization of American States (OAS). Through its Department of Human Development, Education and Culture (DHDEC), GS/OAS supports OAS member states in creating policies and executing programs that promote human capacity development at all educational levels. I. ABOUT THE PROGRAM

For detailed information about the course, please review each description:

Management Principles: This course examines concepts through which a modern organization can be viewed as a system. It helps the student develop practical applications of management concepts in the work environment. It provides the student with the opportunity to apply course concepts to organizations in the private, non-profit and public sectors. Examines the role of the manager in modern organizations and general principles of management including: decision-making, planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling. Teaches how to read current periodicals to gain a better understanding of management in the different sectors.

Note: Although there are no formal prerequisites, students should have a good grasp of basic English writing skills. Students must write grammatically and read English with understanding in order to be able to learn reading, writing and thinking skills at a the college level.

  1. APPLICANTS’ PROFESSIONAL PROFILE:

This program caters to people who are interested in starting their own business or manage a successful enterprise. It is structured for all those who wish to evolve in a complex field of business through series of financial activities, all of which is part of the greater socio-economic system.

2. STUDY VENUE/ MODALITY:

The course will be delivered entirely online (Internet) through the SUNY/ESC website.

English.

The selected candidates for the OAS scholarships will have to apply online for admission to the University.

II. ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

  1. BENEFITS:

SUNY/ESC will cover 100% of the tuition fees and the OAS will provide computer and internet access through the OAS Computer Room at Ecole Supérieure d’ Informatique d’ Haiti (ESIH).

The scholarship recipient will be responsible for the cost of the Examination fee for the TOEFL or English Evaluation Exam delivered at the Haitian American Institute in Port au Prince, which ever the applicants prefer to submit.

  1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must:

· Be Haitian national residing in Haiti;

· Have a high school diploma with a 3.5 GPA or higher; or any other higher degree obtained.

· Write 2 essays on the topics below. Each essay must contain between 300 and 500 words.

o Describe how acquiring this professional training will directly impact and enhance your professional skills.

o Please explain how you intend to apply the acquired knowledge and experience in the specific program that you will pursue to the development in your country or community.

· Have good command of English, with documentary evidence. Applicants for whom English is not the first or native language or who have not completed at least a 2 year degree program at an educational institution where the language of instruction is English should submit one of the following to verify English proficiency

o An official transcript verifying completion of secondary education in which English is the primary language of communication.

o A valid (nor more than 2 years) and satisfactory test score of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of 550 or higher for the paper based test, 215 for computer-based test or 90 for internet-based test; IELTS 5.5, or the equivalent

o An English evaluation certificate from the Haitian American Institute.

· Possess basic computer and internet skills;

  1. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION RESTRICTIONS

Please note that you are not eligible to apply for this scholarship if:

- you were awarded an OAS Professional Development Scholarship in the past twelve (12) months or if you currently hold an OAS Scholarship for Academic Studies;

- you are not a Haitian citizen living in Haiti;

Also, Staff members of the General Secretariat, persons under performance contracts with the General Secretariat, staff members of the permanent missions to the OAS, and their relatives are not eligible for OAS academic scholarships.

  1. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

· Completed OAS Scholarship Application form

· Certified Copy of the transcript of the latest degree obtained

· Certified Copy of high school diploma or of the latest degree obtained

· 2 essays

· Updated resume, if applicant has any work experience

· One letter of recommendation from a teacher or an employer if working or have worked before.

· Document showing proof of language proficiency

Applicants should complete the OAS Scholarship Application Form, print the completed application form and submit it with all the abovementioned required documents in PDF format to the Bureau National de Liaison in Haiti (ONE) located at the Ministère de la Planification et de la Cooperation Externe via e-mail to [email protected] with the subject matter: “OAS-SUNY/ESC Scholarships for Haiti”, and by regular mail to the Bureau. The application deadline is December 1st, 2011.

  1. SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA:

Scholarships shall be granted based on the following criteria:

    • The merits and overall credentials of the candidate, including his/her academic and professional background;
    • Proof that the candidate is living in Haiti at the moment the application is submitted and commitment to stay in Haiti while performing the online studies.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

All Scholarship Recipients must:

· Fulfill all requirements of the program for which the OAS scholarship is awarded;

· Have unrestricted Internet access and a computer with the minimum technical specifications as required by the program or have the means to reach Ecole Supérieure d’ Informatique d’ Haiti (ESIH), where OAS scholarship recipients will have free access to the OAS Computer Center, including internet access.

· Confirm their acceptance of the scholarship award by signing and returning to DHDEC their completed form: “Acceptance of the Scholarship Award”.

· Inform the OAS Department of Human Development, Education and Culture in the event he/she is unable to begin the program of study so that the scholarship may be offered to the next ranked candidate.

· Reimburse GS/OAS the total amount of the scholarship costs if he/she declines the scholarship after the start of the program without compelling proof/reason.
