Over the past several years, the United States has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on crime and violence prevention programs in Central America, with few evaluations of the impact of this investment. But one hotly debated study highlights the challenges of measuring security assistance outcomes, as well as the need for a greater body of analysis about the efficacy of such initiatives.

Bio: Rodrigo Guerrero fue Alcalde de Cali, Colombia, entre 1992 y 1994 y entre 2012 – 2015. Como Alcalde, fue responsable por la creación del programa DESEPAZ (DEsarrollo, SEguridad y PAZ) para prevenir la violencia desde un enfoque epidemiológico, después replicado en Bogotá, Quito y Caracas.

Rodrigo Guerrero, ex-Alcalde de Cali (Colombia) estuvo con el equipo de la Red Interamericana de Prevención de la Violencia y Delito y habló sobre su estrategia para reducir las tasas de homicidio de la municipalidad. En 20 minutos de entrevista, Dr. Guerrero dijo como el uso de la ciencia contribuyó para prevenir la violencia y el delito y, en particular, los homicidios. Él también habló sobre la importancia de la coordinación entre los actores locales, la realización de análisis adecuados para la formulación de políticas públicas en materia de prevención y la necesidad de contar un sistema de registros de información confiable para la implementación de intervenciones que generen impacto.

German authorities arrested considerably fewer human traffickers in 2016 compared to the previous year. More than 50 percent of arrests were made on the Austrian-German border.
