Los temas a discusión en este portal ya han sido analizados por múltiples actores. En este repositorio la SG/OEA reúne algunos de ellos, como una contribución más a la discusión. Este repositorio tiene dos secciones: En la de Políticas integraremos información sobre políticas relevantes a los temas a debate que estén siendo implementadas por los Estados Miembros, Estados Observadores y otros Estados del mundo. En la de Estudios incluiremos análisis, informes y reportes publicados por instituciones académicas, centros de pensamiento, organizaciones internacionales y multilaterales, organizaciones no gubernamentales y entes privados, todos ellos de reconocido prestigio, que sean relevantes para la conversación. La OEA publicará estos artículos e informes en su idioma original.

Aunque todavía no hay datos disponibles sobre el aumento de la pobreza multidimensional a nivel mundial tras la pandemia, simulaciones realizadas para 70 países en desarrollo a partir de los efectos anticipados del virus en dos indicadores del IPM global —nutrición y asistencia escolar—, nos ofrecen una idea de cuál podría ser el impacto de la crisis si no se toman las medidas adecuadas.

La pandemia de COVID-19 y la crisis mundial que ha provocado han colocado a los países de renta baja al borde de la ruina. Si no se toman medidas urgentes, pronto veremos una serie de tragedias humanitarias brutales y destructivas, advirtió este jueves la ONU al solicitar a las economías del G20 fondos por 10.300 millones de dólares para financiar el Plan Global de Respuesta Humanitaria.

El coordinador de las Naciones Unidas para Asuntos Humanitarios, Mark Lowcock, explicó que el Plan contempla intervenciones de emergencia en 63 países que no cuentan con los medios para hacer frente a la pandemia y que su intención es beneficiar a 250 millones de personas.

Haití dará asistencia a sectores más vulnerables golpeados por COVID con apoyo BID

El Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) aprobó una asistencia no reembolsable de US$60 millones para apoyar a los sectores más vulnerables de Haití frente a la crisis causada por la COVID-19.

La ayuda será administrada por el Fondo de Asistencia Económica y Social (FAES), un organismo autónomo dependiente del Ministerio de Finanzas, que se encarga de implementar los programas de asistencia social en Haití, donde 59 por ciento de la población vive bajo la línea de pobreza.

El Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) y el Programa Centroamericano de Gestión Integral de la Roya del Café (PROCAGICA) coordinaron la entrega de semillas e insumos a familias cafetaleras en diversos municipios, como parte de las acciones estratégicas para contribuir a reducir la vulnerabilidad rural provocada por covid-19.

Se procura disminuir la vulnerabilidad en dos vías: apoyando la producción de alimentos con cultivos de ciclo corto y brindar la oportunidad de obtener ingresos económicos por la comercialización de los excedentes de los cultivos.

Ahora que las escuelas empiezan a reabrir, los niños hablan de su miedo de volver», señaló Audrey Azoulay, Directora General de la UNESCO. «Es responsabilidad de todos velar por que las escuelas sean entornos seguros para todos los niños. Debemos pensar y actuar colectivamente para acabar con la violencia en la escuela y en las sociedades en general».
