A high percentage of the Honduran population lives in conditions of vulnerability, for causes that include poverty, unemployment, low quality of public services and low access to education, leading to a high emigratory flow from the country. Many of those seeking a better life are victims of false promises by traffickers and organized crime.
Trafficking in persons is a complex crime, and it needs a coordinated and multisectoral response at the local and national levels to achieve positive results. To contribute to this approach, the project sought to strengthen human and institutional capacities of local and national actors and to broader the access to existing services for the assistance and protection of victims of trafficking in persons in the four municipalities in Honduras. In addition, it facilitated and promoted the creation and strengthening of interinstitutional alliances for the collaboration in assistance and protection actions for victims of trafficking in persons.
