A high percentage of the Honduran population lives in conditions of vulnerability, for causes that include poverty, unemployment, low quality of public services and low access to education, leading to a high emigratory flow from the country. Many of those seeking a better life are victims of false promises by traffickers and organized crime.

Trafficking in persons is a complex crime, and it needs a coordinated and multisectoral response at the local and national levels to achieve positive results. To contribute to this approach, the project sought to strengthen human and institutional capacities of local and national actors and to broader the access to existing services for the assistance and protection of victims of trafficking in persons in the four municipalities in Honduras. In addition, it facilitated and promoted the creation and strengthening of interinstitutional alliances for the collaboration in assistance and protection actions for victims of trafficking in persons.

Objectives

Contribute to the improvement of the assistance and protection services offered to victims of trafficking in persons, as well as increase the access to them.

Activities
  • Mapping of institutions assisting victims of trafficking in persons and publication and publication of information on the institutions interviewed in the four municipalities.
  • Online and onsite course aimed at personnel from governmental and non-governmental institutions in the areas of health, social assistance, migration, education, labor, security and justice on assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking.
  • Meetings to strengthen the Local Committees against trafficking in persons in the four municipalities.
