CICAD developed an evidence-based curriculum on substance use prevention, treatment and recovery for faith-based organizations in 2020.

The course is designed for staff of faith-based organizations that work with the issue of addictions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 2019, CICAD organized an initial conference with experts from the Americas and senior officials from Christian institutions to discuss the religious content as a cross-cutting theme of the curriculum, and the alignment between Church practices and scientific theories.

Objectives

Offer a spirituality curriculum for faith-based organizations in the Americas on the subject of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery.
Promote evidence-based education about substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery in faith-based organizations of OAS member states.

Activities

Development of a curriculum on substance use prevention, treatment and recovery for faith-based organizations.
Establishment of an advisory committee for the Americas with experts and high-level officials from faith-based organizations to review and disseminate the training materials.

Capacities strengthened for staff of faith-based organizations that work with people with substance use disorders.

Expansion and strengthening of the network of religious organizations working with people with substance use disorders through active participation.

Awareness was increased by conducting training events using the curriculum for faith-based organizations.
