Buenas días a todos y todas. Es un gran honor para mí poder participar de este foro internacional en el marco de la Semana de la Reforma Policial organizada por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo. A sus representantes hoy aquí presentes, les agradezco por la invitación.

Quisiera también agradecer muy especialmente al Gobierno de Honduras por la oportunidad que nos han dado de trabajar con ellos y la confianza que han depositado en nosotros. Nos sentimos verdaderamente orgullosos y honrados de poder acompañarlos en este gran esfuerzo de construir una nueva policía para Honduras y para todos los hondureños.

Youth violence rates around the country have been decreasing in recent years, but violent crimes are still most concentrated in poorer, urban neighborhoods. Experts say kids who grow up in dangerous areas are more likely to become targets.

In Chicago, a program called CeaseFire is working to curb violence by helping at-risk youth find employment and patrolling the streets to stop crimes before they happen.
