The Critical Role of Civil Society in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings

The purpose of this Occasional Paper is to outline and analyse the role played by civil society in efforts to address the threat posed by the crime of human trafficking. Arguing that the inclusion of civil society is essential for the implementation of any viable strategy to combat human trafficking, this publication can serve as an additional tool to assist the OSCE participating States strengthen their responses to trafficking in human beings, especially in the area of partnerships as a fundamental component of an effective anti-trafficking system.

The Women’s Health Survey (WHS) 2016 Jamaica, published two months ago, is the first annual Women’s Health Survey report for Jamaica and it is part of a larger collection of Inter-American Development Bank research on intimate partner violence (IPV) in the Caribbean. The study used a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods and demonstrated that IPV and violence against women and girls (VAWG) is prevalent in Jamaica.

UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women: Generating Sustainability

The 2017 Annual Report of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, published in 2018, highlights some of the activists and movements that worked towards the rights of women and girls. It also serves as a testimony of the achievement of some of their grantees. The UN Trust Fund managed 120 projects in 80 countries addressing and preventing violence against women and children and benefitting over 340,000 women and girls directly. Over 45,000 women and girls who beneficiated were survivors of violence. An estimated 35 percent of women in the world have experienced physical and/or sexual violence.
