This report describes the nature and scope of the problem of trafficking in persons in Latin America and the Caribbean. It then describes U.S. efforts to deal with trafficking in persons in the region and discusses recent country and regional anti-trafficking efforts. The report concludes by raising issues that may be helpful for Congress to consider as it continues to address human trafficking as part of its authorization, appropriations, and oversight activities.

This annual report from the U.S. Department of State profiles each country's efforts, or lack thereof, to combat human trafficking. It also provides country-specific as well as regional and international recommendations to increase accountability and protect victims. 

El delito de trata de personas afecta a prácticamente todos los países de todas las regiones del mundo. Entre 2010 y 2012 se identificaron víctimas de 152 nacionalidades diferentes en 124 países de todo el mundo. Además, las corrientes de la trata de personas, en forma de líneas imaginarias que conectan el mismo país de origen y de destino de al menos el 5% de las víctimas detectadas, atraviesan el mundo. La Oficina de las Naciones Unidas contra la Droga y el Delito (UNODC) ha identificado al menos 510 corrientes. Se trata de cifras mínimas, ya que se basan en los datos oficiales comunicados por las autoridades nacionales. Estas cifras oficiales solo constituyen la parte visible del fenómeno de la trata de personas, y es probable que las cifras reales sean mucho más elevadas. La mayoría de las corrientes de trata son intrarregionales, lo que significa que el origen y el destino de la víctima se encuentran en la misma región; con frecuencia también en una única subregión. 

The crime of trafficking in persons affects virtually every country in every region of the world. Between 2010 and 2012, victims with 152 different citizenships were identified in 124 countries across the globe. Moreover, trafficking flows - imaginary lines that connect the same origin country and destination country of at least five detected victims – criss-cross the world. UNODC has identified at least 510 flows. These are minimum figures as they are based on official data reported by national authorities. These official figures represent only the visible part of the trafficking phenomenon and the actual figures are likely to be far higher. Most trafficking flows are intraregional, meaning that the origin and the destination of the trafficked victim is within the same region; often also within the same subregion.
