CICAD conducted an initial mapping of drug use prevention, treatment and rehabilitation facilities in thirteen OAS Caribbean Member States in 2011, along with an assessment of their institutional and training needs.

Given the challenges now facing drug use prevention and treatment facilities in the region in light of the pandemic, CICAD carried out a new assessment in 2020-2021 to identify current conditions and prioritize areas of technical assistance that could be offered to Caribbean member states.

This initiative provides both CICAD and member states with the information they need to optimize the level of drug prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services offered in the Caribbean.

Objectives

To identify drug use prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation programs currently operating in the Caribbean region, and more specifically, those local institutions and/or individuals that are providing these services.

Activities

Undertake a regional mapping of drug treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation facilities to identify key stakeholder agencies in the Caribbean member states;
Conduct a region-wide assessment of institutional and human resource training needs;
Update the listing of regional drug use prevention, treatment and rehabilitation organizations to help improve communications between organizations with similar goals and/or objectives.
