The Education area works with OAS member states to strengthen public policies and capacity building for building resilient education systems through policy dialogue and Inter-American cooperation to ensure quality, inclusive and equitable education that is key to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting the development of human potential, and alleviating poverty and fostering greater understanding among our peoples.

The Inter-American Teacher Education Network (ITEN) is an initiative of the Organization of American States (OAS) that works with Ministries of Education or other governmental teacher education institutions of OAS Member States and classroom teachers to advance the teaching profession in the Western hemisphere.

The OAS Scholarship and Training Programs within the Department of Human Development Education and Employment of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate-level studies, short-term professional training courses and innovative online training opportunities for citizens/permanent residents of the OAS Member States. Its goal is to increase access to affordable quality higher education for citizens of the Americas and support member states.

The Leo Rowe Fund aims to support Latin American and Caribbean students pursuing higher education in the United States by providing interest-free loans and supplementary scholarships.

The Educational Portal of the Americas is an OAS initiative committed to generating access to quality education in the Americas through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT).

This section is part of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development.

The Education area contributes to strengthening public policies and capacity building for building resilient education systems through policy dialogue and Inter-American cooperation to ensure quality, inclusive and equitable education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, which is key to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting the development of human potential, and alleviating poverty and fostering greater understanding among our peoples.

The DHDEE functions as Technical Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Education (CIE), the mechanism for permanent ministerial dialogue responsible for the development and follow-up on the lines of action established by member states and the priority areas defined in the Inter-American Education Agenda (IEA), which are translated into concrete actions in the CIE Work Plan.

The purpose of the IEA is to be a forum for policy dialogue and decision making, strengthened and executed through Inter-American cooperation, as well as coordination and linkages of efforts with other international organizations and regional and subregional entities.

Through the Inter-American Teacher Education Network (ITEN), the DHDEE implements an initiative that works with the Ministries of Education or other government teacher training institutions in the OAS Member States and classroom teachers to promote the teaching profession in the hemisphere.
