The Department of Economic Development promotes growth, competitiveness, and innovation in Member States through programs that support economic actors in domestic and international markets. By focusing on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), the department fosters job creation, poverty reduction, and social inclusion. Additionally, DED supports political dialogue, knowledge exchange, strategic alliances, and commercial opportunities.

The Department focuses on promoting inclusive and competitive economies through the following areas:

Competitiveness, Innovation, and Technology: Supports economic growth in the region by promoting public policy dialogue, capacity building, and the development of cooperation initiatives and technical documents on competitiveness and innovation.

Trade and Economic Development: Enhances institutional capacities of Member States to design and implement policies and programs for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and trade, through training, horizontal cooperation, and sharing best practices.

Culture and Tourism: Strengthens institutional capacities to develop and execute policies and programs in culture and tourism, supporting Member States with training, cooperation, and best practices.

The Department of Economic Development (DED) is under the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI)
