The Coordinating Office provides strategic direction for the Representations of the General Secretariat in the Member States and serves as a channel of dialogue between the OAS and the countries of the hemisphere. Its mission is to ensure that the National Offices operate as effective platforms for political presence, cooperation, and multilateral diplomacy, while also guaranteeing cost-efficiency and the optimal use of resources.

Its core responsibilities include technical and budgetary support, staff training, and the provision of administrative assistance—all aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the OAS mission, mandates, and pillars throughout the hemisphere. In this regard, the Office of the Assistant Secretary General oversees and ensures the overall coherence of the management of the Offices in the Member States.

The Coordination Office plays a strategic role in strengthening the political and institutional presence of the OAS on the ground. This involves promoting activities that enhance the visibility and relevance of the Offices, while intensifying efforts to strengthen cooperation with inter-American institutions and with international and regional partners, for the direct benefit of the Member States.

As a priority, the Office promotes political dialogue as an essential tool of inter-American diplomacy. In this context, it fosters spaces for encounter, understanding, and consensus-building among national, subregional, and hemispheric actors, thereby contributing to the development of agreements and to the advancement of the shared values, principles, and priorities of the inter-American system.
