On March 16, the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica declared a State of National Emergency throughout the territory due to the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 disease. To date, more than 100 new bills have been submitted to address the impact of the pandemic on the different affected populations, through a parliamentary management committed to an adequate response to the emergency. For this reason, Deputy Nielsen Pérez and the CIM offer this space for exchange and virtual debate on the approach that should prevail in this new legislation, taking into account the recommendations that the CIM makes on the differential impact of the pandemic on women, in order for Costa Rica to adjust its response to international human rights commitments and thus, avoid exacerbating the conditions of gender inequality that existed before the pandemic.
