The topics for discussion on this portal have already been analyzed by multiple actors. In this repository, the GS / OAS brings together some of them, as one more contribution to the discussion. This repository has two sections: In the Policy section, we will integrate information on policies relevant to the issues under discussion that are being implemented by Member States, Observer States and other States of the world. In Studies we will include analyzes, reports and reports published by academic institutions, think tanks, international and multilateral organizations, non-governmental organizations and private entities, all of them of recognized prestige, which are relevant to the conversation. The OAS will publish these articles and reports in their original language.

ITALY - Vice Minister Del Re Promotes a Coordinated global response to the pandemic

Intervened during the first meeting of the newly established "Facilitation Council" of the Accelerator ACT - Access to COVID-19 Tools, noting “(..) we will contribute additional funds that will bring Italy's overall contribution to equitable access to vaccines for all, to over 100 million dollars”, while also underlining the importance of effective multilateralism to “to achieve the goal of equitable access to life-saving tools for all and everywhere”. The Vice Minister also underscored Italy's full commitment also during the next G20 Presidency, "where we will keep the response to the pandemic, global health and support to the ACT Accelerator as priorities".

Italy - Italy Promotes #FoodCoalition

Food security and nutrition have always been key priorities of Italian foreign policy. Italy has always played an important role in this sector, something testified by many UN agencies in Rome – FAO, IFAD and WFP.   Covid-19 requires us to rethink everything about food security and nutrition – universal goals – since they are at risk. Furthermore, Italy just recently propitiated the creation of the #FoodCoalition, a multilateral and multi-sector mechanism capable of creating a network of international solidarity to respond to the critical issues caused by the pandemic in the food sector. 

Italy - Italy's ISS and NATO to Develop Rapid Diagnostic Tests for COVID-19

NATO and Italy’s National Institute for Health (ISS) are launching a practical scientific project to develop new tools for a rapid and accurate diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This multi-year project is launched within the framework of NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme, and is led by scientists on the frontline of COVID-19 research from Italy’s Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Health Institute) and Tor Vergata University Hospital together with the University Hospital of Basel University in Switzerland. This 24-month initiative aims to enhance the speed and efficiency of COVID-19 diagnosis through a multidisciplinary approach, by bringing together experts in the field of immunology, virology and molecular biology.

Italy: Decree from Italy Initiating Phase 2 to Combat and Contain the new Coronavirus

On April 26 2020, the Prime Minister of Italy signed a Decree (text in Italian) that initiates the Phase 2 of Government actions to combat and contain the coronavirus. The new Decree goes into effect on May 4, and envisages a gradual easing of restrictions and restart of activities, including the reopening of schools in September.

At the international level Italy has also undertaken important measures through its development agencies.
