The Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI), under the chairmanship of Ambassador Jan Marten Schalkwijk, Permanent Representative of Suriname to the OAS, and the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) will convene a regular meeting on Monday, July 29, 2025, focused on: “Capacity Building to Improve Trade in the Americas as a Pillar of Inclusive and Sustainable Development.”
This theme acknowledges that achieving economic development in the Hemisphere requires strategic investments in human capital and institutional systems to ensure all countries can participate effectively in trade.
The objective of the session is to promote dialogue amongst Member States on a Roadmap for Capacity Building to Improve Trade in the Americas, based on:
- Priorities identified by OAS Member States
- Best practices and empirical evidence
- Practical cooperation and strategic partnership
The July 29th meeting will launch the semester’s dialogue by identifying key constraints, gaps, and opportunities that hinder the region’s ability to build trade-related capacities. These insights will help shape the direction of upcoming thematic sessions throughout the semester.
