This event is held within the framework of the project "Strengthening the Identification and Referral of Persons Applying for Refugee Status and/or with Profiles of Special Vulnerability through the Modernization of Costa Rica's Refugee Unit Platform," funded by the MIRPS Fund with the support of the Government of Spain.
During the event, the enhancements and modernization of Costa Rica’s Refuge Unit platform will be presented, marking a significant step forward in optimizing the identification, assistance, and referral of individuals in need of international protection. This modernization will streamline processes and ensure a more efficient and effective response for those seeking asylum in the country.
Additionally, the upgraded platform will facilitate the timely identification of individuals with special vulnerability profiles, regardless of their refugee status recognition. This includes persons with disabilities, older adults, members of indigenous communities, women victims of domestic violence, unaccompanied children and adolescents, among others. These improvements will strengthen institutional response capacity, allowing these populations to receive faster and more adequate assistance, whether through the asylum system or via referral to specialized institutions that support vulnerable groups.
Through these initiatives, Costa Rica reaffirms its commitment to human rights and the protection of displaced persons, solidifying its position as a regional leader in asylum and support for vulnerable populations.
