Through Resolution CP/RES. 1269 (2525/24), the Member States of the OAS have officially convened a special session of the General Assembly to elect the Secretary General of the OAS. This special session will be held on March 10th, 2025. The General Secretariat is also entrusted with organizing a dialogue between the candidates put forward by member states for the position of Secretary General of the OAS and representatives of civil society organizations duly accredited to the Organization. The participation of civil society organizations shall be in accordance with the “Guidelines for the Participation of Civil Society Organizations in OAS Activities [CP/RES. 759 (1217/99)]”.
In this regard, civil society organizations duly accredited to the OAS will be able to participate in a Meeting with the candidates for the position of Secretary General, which will be held on February 11, 2025, at 9:00 am, at the Hall of the Americas of the OAS Main Building. The Meeting will be broadcast live in the four official languages of the Organization (Spanish, English, Portuguese and French), as well as in American Sign Language (ASL). The Meeting will seek to provide an opportunity for civil society organizations registered with the OAS to hear the respective visions of the candidates, as well as the challenges and opportunities they perceive for the region. The candidates will further present their proposed plans for the 2025-2030 period. Following the presentations, the moderator will pose questions previously submitted by civil society representatives to the candidates. The questions will be drawn at random.
