The Inter-American Committee on Education (CIE), chaired by the Secretariat of Education of Argentina, held its Tenth Regular Meeting on November 7 and 8, 2024. During the event, the progress made in the implementation of hemispheric mandates and programs aimed at strengthening the education systems of the Americas in contexts of change was highlighted.
The day began with the presentation of the Report on progress in the implementation of the mandates of the XI Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education, in charge of the Organization of American States (OAS), as Technical Secretariat of the CIE through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE).
The delegations discussed the advances made in the hemispheric programs for the Recovery, Repair and Reactivation of the Education Sector (3R4E) and Critical Literacy and Digital Education in contexts of change (LICED).
Among the advances was the participation of more than 1,900 people in virtual courses implemented since October. In addition, the DDHEE presented achievements in the Hemispheric Program Democratic Principles Strengthened through Education and Policy Dialogue (DEMEP), while the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) presented joint results in healthy eating and physical activity policies in schools in the Bahamas, Belize and Colombia.
The first day of the meeting culminated with the approval of the resolution on the Methodology for Building and Implementing the Work Plan of the CIE 2022-2025.
On the second day, the new authorities of the CIE for the period 2024-2027 were elected. Ecuador, Colombia and the Dominican Republic assumed the presidency and the first and second vice presidencies, respectively, while Peru will lead Working Group 1.
