The OAS Scholarship and Training Program helps member states in their internal efforts to achieve their goals of increasing access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education each year, contributing to human development.

Since 1958, the program has provided scholarships to thousands of students in the region. Today the program offers scholarships for academic studies and professional development; innovative online training opportunities; training and exchange of knowledge for teachers and policy makers; support to strengthen institutional capacities in education and employment, through its two main programs: Academic Scholarship Program and Partnerships Program for Education and Training (PAEC).

Objectives
  • Assist in the efforts of Member States to reduce social inequality, poverty and increase social inclusion.
  • Offer quality educational opportunities for citizens/permanent residents of the OAS Member States.
  • Encourage training and exchange of knowledge for teachers and policy makers.
  • Support the strengthening of institutional capacities and horizontal cooperation.
  • Promote decent work and economic growth in OAS Member States.
Activities
  • Establish alliances with partners from the private or public educational sector to offer academic and professional training opportunities.
  • Organize the scholarship programs and benefits that will be available to students according to the institution and educational program.
  • Develop the communication strategy for the promotion of scholarship opportunities to the target audience.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and selection committees of the applicants to the different scholarship programs.
  • Maintain close communication with the applicants and beneficiaries of the different scholarship programs.
  • Monitor the institutions and beneficiaries of the different scholarship programs until their completion.

In 2023, 4,139 scholarships were awarded: 2,731/PAEC, 47 /Academic Program, 163/Professional Development Scholarship Program
In 2023, university scholarships awarded had an estimated total value of $49.7 million.
