Since 2006 the Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development define policies, activities, projects, and other innovative solutions that aim to position the Americas to better address the causes of and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
The OAS Member States periodically gather to define policy priorities and actions. At each meeting, sustainable development authorities approve a Declaration and a Plan of Action, reflect the broad consensus around current priorities and strategies to address the critical environmental challenges facing the Western Hemisphere, and the world.
To date, the OAS has organized four Meetings of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, including:
• First Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia December 4-5, 2006.
• Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High -Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic November 17-19, 2010.
• Third Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, Tegucigalpa, Honduras October 22-23, 2015.
• Fourth Inter-American Meetings of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, Nassau, The Bahamas, October 3-4, 2023.
