The Collaboratory on Data and Science for Risk and Resilience in the Caribbean (CDSRRC) aims to leverage the collective resources and expertise of diverse stakeholders to integrate scientific research and data into effective policy making. The initiative focuses on enhancing the capabilities of decision-makers in risk mitigation; fostering on-going communication among participating institutions to align efforts and optimize resources and building partnerships for sustained cooperation in resilience building across the Caribbean.

Guided by a comprehensive Action Plan, the CDSRRC emphasizes the importance of science in decision-making, disaster risk management, and building resilience. The program includes dialogues, protocols, and frameworks to help member states improve responses to natural phenomena.  

Objectives

The objectives of the Collaboratory on Data and Science for Risk and Resilience in the Caribbean (CDSRRC) are:

  • Facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders to advance research and data-driven solutions for risk reduction and resilience-building in the Caribbean.
  • Identify and promote innovative approaches to leverage data, technology, and scientific research in addressing complex challenges posed by natural disasters, climate change, and social vulnerabilities.
  • Enhance the capacity of local communities and public and private sector institutions in the Caribbean to access, analyze, and utilize data for informed decision-making and policy formulation.
  • Foster partnerships between academia, government agencies, the private sector, and civil society to jointly work on interdisciplinary projects aimed at enhancing resilience. 

Activities

Workshops and Training Sessions

To shape research and share research findings, best practices, and technological advancements.

Implementation of development projects

Collaborate on joint research projects and initiatives with a focus on delivering actionable outcomes and practical solutions tailored to the region’s need.

Develop a knowledge hub to serve as a central repository for relevant data, resources, and research publications.

Produce policy briefs, reports, and white papers addressing key resilience challenges and proposing potential interventions for policymakers and stakeholders.

Technical Assistance/Capacity Building

Facilitate capacity-building sessions and training workshops focused on data analysis, risk modeling, and resilience planning.

Support the management of scientific processes and outcomes.
