Political System
St. Vincent and the Grenadines operates as a parliamentary democracy modeled on the Westminster system. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, represented in the country by a Governor-General, an honorary appointment made on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Executive
The Prime Minister and Cabinet make up the Executive Branch. Following the General Elections, the leader of the majority party is sworn in as Prime Minister, and the Cabinet is chosen.

Legislative
The House of Assembly is composed by 6 senators appointed by the Governor General (in advice of the Prime Minister) and 15 elected representatives. Even though the Prime Minister can call elections at any time, the parliamentary term of office is five years long.

Judicial
The legal system is derived from English Common Law and statues.
