MC 21-05 - Manuel Enrique Vega Sarmiento, Colombie
On May 5, 2018, the IACHR decided to partially lift the precautionary measure granted in favor of Manuel Enrique Vega Sarmiento, concerning Colombia. On June 13, 2017, the IACHR decided to expand the measures in question and requested (through precautionary measure resolution 4/2017) that Colombia take the necessary steps to determine the situation and whereabouts of Mr. Manuel Enrique Vega Sarmiento in order to protect his rights to life and personal integrity, since his whereabouts had allegedly been unknown since December 25, 2016. In 2017, the parties reported that the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science had confirmed that a corpse found in January 2017 in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar was allegedly that of the beneficiary. As a result of his death, the IACHR deemed that the precautionary measures had become devoid of purpose and therefore decided to partially lift them.
