On August 6th, the 45th Course on International Law
was inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an annual academic activity that is organized by the Inter-American Juridical Committee and the Department of International Law (Secretariat for Legal Affairs) of the OAS, is part of the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law, adopted by the OAS General Assembly in 1997 and updated in 2011, with the purpose of promoting and disseminating international law, the Inter-American legal system and the Organization's legal agenda.
Throughout the three week course, participants will receive instruction on various topics in the field of international law, both public and private, as well as new legal developments in the inter-American system. Classes will be taught by a select group of professors from different countries from within the region.
At the opening ceremony, the 46 admitted students were welcomed by the Chairman of the Inter-American Juridical Committee (CJI), Dr. Hernán
Salinas; the Secretary for Legal Affairs of the
OAS, Dr. Jean-Michel Arrighi; and the Director
of the Department of International Law, Dr.
Dante Negro. The event was also attended by
diplomatic and consular authorities of the
Member States as well as by Brazilian
professionals and academics.
