OAS - Inter-American Metrology System Agreement advances Ministerial Agenda. The cooperation agreement signed by the OAS and the Inter-American Metrology System (SIM) --a regional organization comprised by the National Metrology Institutes (NMI) of OAS member states-- seeks to strengthen the development of metrological capabilities in the Americas. The OAS-SIM agreement will serve as a starting point for the implementation of the Plan of Action of Guatemala approved last month, where the region’s Ministers of Science and Technology recognized the importance of metrology for development. Metrology ensures the establishment of national and international measures, norms and standards of products, thus facilitating common progress in manufacturing, and in science and technology, as essential elements to support trade, innovation and competitiveness.
