Description:
How to educate our youth for the Jobs of the Future? How are education and training systems responding to accelerated technological change? What are the Skills for the Future and how are we developing them?
To discuss these and many other challenges that the Future of Work poses both in education and labor policy-making, officers from the Ministries of Education and Labor of the region gathered in Santiago de Chile on May 16th - 17th, to participate in the Inter-sectoral Workshop on "Skills for the Future: Coordination between Ministries of Education and Labor". Experts from international organizations and representatives of workers, employers, private sector and academic institutions also participated in the discussions.
The purpose of the Workshop was to promote the development of the skills for the future, address the human capital gap and better align education and training to current and future needs of the world of work.
The event was hosted by the Government of Chile and organized by the OAS with support from the Inter-American Center for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training (CINTERFOR) of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
During the event, participants were divided into 3 sub-regional groups to identify lessons learned and policy recommendations. The Secretariat is currently working with the moderators and with each one of the groups to finalize these documents, which will inform the way forward.
