Juridical and Political Affairs Committee (CAJP)

The Committee for Judicial and Political Affairs (CAJP for its acronym in Spanish) was responsible for the Inter-American Program for the Promotion and the Protection of the Human Rights of Migrants.

Developed by a special working group in 2004, this Program came into effect in 2005 and was designed to tackle the issues and opportunities presented by the migration phenomenon holistically across the organization. It included the following topics: Human Rights, Gender, Youth and Children, Economic Development, Education, Democracy, Legislation, Trafficking in Persons, and Health.

With the creation of the Special Committee on Migration Issues (CEAM for its acronym in Spanish) in 2007, the responsibility for analyzing topics surrounding the rights of Migrants and Migration and Development was transferred from the CAJP to the CEAM.

However, the following topics are still reviewed within the framework of the CAJP:
- Refugees and Asylum Seekers
- Discrimination and Intolerance
- The Human Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Families
- Attention to special populations (women, indigenous, afro-descendents)
