Intersectorial Seminar on employment policies and income generation for vulnerable populations

Cartagena de Indias, Colombia
October 19-20, 2009

This activity was developed in the framework of the Inter-American Committee of Social Development (CIDES)´s Work Plan, under the auspicies of the OAS and the government of Colombia through its Department of National Planning and the Presidential Agency for Social Action and International Cooperation.

The main objective of the workshop is to learn and discuss, from a multi-sectoral perspective, the progress and challenges on employment policies and income generation in the Americas for vulnerable populations. In the context of the current global economic crisis, the focus will be placed on responding to the needs of poor and vulnerable populations.

Ministries, high authorities and technical officers of social development and labor of the OAS member states participated at this seminar, as well as representatives from international organizations.

This activity follows up on the mandate received from the First Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Social Development, which requested CIDES to promote exchange of experiences on mechanisms for income generation among vulnerable and poor populations.
