THE IACD LEADS MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL EFFORTS TO PROMOTE
THE USE OF ICTS FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN CENTRAL AMERICA
May 15, 2003
The IACD, in cooperation with the Institute for Connectivity in the Americas (ICA), the Academy for Educational Development (AED), the Development Gateway Foundation, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will hold the seminar, “Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Human Development in Central America” from May 13-16, 2003 in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The main objective of the seminar is to provide participants with the opportunity to articulate a regional perspective for the application of ICTs for human and social development. The seminar will bring together key stakeholders from governments, civil society, the private sector, NGOs, academia, and multi-laterals in order to identify synergies among different projects and establish mechanisms for more coordinated, cooperative, and sustainable regional efforts.
The seminar is part of an overall larger cooperative process that seeks to promote the coordination of efforts of key actors and organizations in the region. This process includes the establishment of a growing network (with both face-to-face and virtual components) that promotes greater communication and proactive cooperation among actors in the public and private sector, civil society, and cooperation agencies. This network will serve, both before and after the seminar, as a mechanism to share experiences and lessons learned, prioritize action plans, and explore and propose joint projects.
