OAS Secretary General to Participate in World Economic Forum in Abu Dhabi and in OAS – African Union Forum in Addis Ababa

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will participate on October 10 and 11 in the Summit on the Global Agenda 2011 of the World Economic Forum, to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on October 12 and 13 and in the Second OAS – African Union Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
At the meeting of the World Economic Forum, in Abu Dhabi, the Secretary General will participate in the Global Agenda Council on the fight against Corruption 2011, which brings together more than 700 experts from around the world to address key issues on the global agenda.
The meeting in Addis Ababa, titled, “Challenges and Opportunities for the Promotion and Defense of Democracy and Human Rights in Africa and the Americas,” will be inaugurated by Secretary General Insulza with the participation of the Chairperson of the African Union, Jean Ping, as well as representatives of the Member States of both organizations and experts on the issue, who will be in charge of discussions during the two-day meeting.
The event will feature the presentation of a general perspective on the challenges facing the member countries of both regional organizations in the work of supporting democracy and the processes to promote and protect human rights in their continents. The meeting’s objective is to share points of view on the challenges for making progress in the two fundamental areas for both regional organizations, and successfully develop concrete ways of collaborating.
