OAS Launches Tool to Identify Temporary Employment Programs for Migrant Workers

The Organization of American States (OAS) officially launched an interactive virtual instrument of Temporary Employment Programs for Migrant Workers (MINPET) that seeks to consolidate information about temporary employment programs for migrant people in search of better places in other countries of the Hemisphere.
MINPET allows users to learn about, monitor, compare, follow up, and analyze temporary employment programs for migrant workers. These are mechanisms that are implemented by destination countries (government, businesses, and labor unions) to hire employees for a specified period of time.
With this initiative, by the Migration and Development Program of the OAS Department of Social Development and Employment, the Organization seeks to contribute to the development of public policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening employment opportunities for citizens of the hemisphere, and facilitate the sharing of information on this subject.
This tool is the first of its kind to provides access to information on public and private programs, and responds to the various commitments made by Member States to have accurate and timely information on migrant workers, an important indicator of migration trends occurring in the Americas, as a basis for public policy, joint activities and the exchange of best practices.
