Each year in April, the OAS Board of External Auditors publishes a report covering the previous calendar year’s financial results. Reports covering 1996-2016 may be found here.

OAS Electoral Observation Mission Makes Preliminary Visit to Costa Rica

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) to Costa Rica, headed by the renowned Mexican politician and former presidential candidate Josefina Vázquez Mota, begins today a preliminary visit to the country in order to initiate contact with the various actors who will participate in the general elections that will take place on February 2, 2014, including government officials, electoral authorities and representatives of political parties.
During this week, the EOM/OAS will hold meetings with the Foreign Minister, José Enrique Castillo Barrantes, and with presidential candidates from various political forces. Furthermore, the Mission will meet with the magistrates of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal and will sign an Agreement on Procedures of Electoral Observation.
This agreement will establish the basis for the work of the EOM/OAS in the context of the upcoming elections, ensuring the Mission can rely on the conditions it needs to conduct its activities, including free access to all instances of the process and easy contact with electoral bodies that are part of the country's electoral system.
Since 1962, the OAS has observed a total of ten electoral processes in Costa Rica, including presidential, legislative and municipal elections, as well as referendums.
