MISPA III Preparatory Meeting to be Held in Santiago, Chile
November 17, 2010
The Organization of American States (OAS) will hold a meeting of experts on public security in preparation for the Third Meeting of Ministers of Public Security of the Americas (MISPA III) on November 18 and 19, 2010, in Santiago, Chile.
The meeting will promote the exchange of experiences and case studies among the Member States of the hemispheric Organization, as well as provide information on projects of the OAS General Secretariat in the area of Public Security. Also, the Government of Chile will reveal its Public Security Plan for the period 2010-2014.
The event also will address the issues raised in the “Commitment to Public Security in the Americas,” which was approved in the First Meeting of Ministers of Public Security held in Mexico in 2008 and highlights the need to make progress on joint initiatives surrounding five fundamental pillars: public security administration; prevention of crime, violence and insecurity; police administration; citizen and community participation; and international cooperation.
MISPA III will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, in 2011 and its objective is to strengthen cooperation among governments of the hemisphere in the fight against delinquency, violence and insecurity.
