OAS Assistant Secretary General Meets with Prime Minister of Saint Lucia

  November 7, 2012

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, held discussions with the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Kenny Anthony this week, on collaboration between the Caribbean country and the hemispheric organization.

The meeting with Prime Minister Anthony, who is also the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), focused on the support of the OAS to Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean through ongoing and future development initiatives. Talks were also held on the exploration of inter- and intra-regional trade and investment opportunities, and the strengthening of electoral institutions following the report and recommendations of the Electoral Observation Mission present in Saint Lucia during the November 2011 general elections.

During the two day visit to Saint Lucia, Assistant Secretary General Ramdin also held discussions with the country’s Minister of External Affairs and International Trade, Alva Baptiste. The talks focused on the need for a disaster preparedness and mitigation plan for the Caribbean island, as well as hemispheric developments and opportunities to expand trade with Caribbean partners and other regional groupings.
