OAS Observes Process of Certification of the Electoral Rolls and Preparations for Elections in Honduras

  August 30, 2013

The Organization of American States (OAS) in the framework of the Electoral Observation Mission (OAS/EOM) to Honduras led by its Chief of Mission, former Chilean Minister Enrique Correa, concluded a preliminary visit to order to follow the organization of the general election process in the country and to hold meetings with electoral, governmental and political authorities, as well as representatives of the national and international community.

During its visit, the Mission signed with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Honduras the Agreement on procedures for the Observation Mission to be deployed for the general elections of November 24, 2013.

In the coming days, a technical team will be arriving in the country to observe the process of certification of the electoral rolls and preparations for the election.

The Mission plans to deploy approximately 78 observers throughout much of the country, including a team of 16 coordinators, who will conduct a professional observation, not only on the day of the election at the polling stations, but throughout the entire process.
