New Ambassador of Jamaica to the OAS Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the Organization of American States (OAS), Ralph Thomas, presented his credentials to the Secretary General, Luis Almagro, at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington DC.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Thomas highlighted Jamaica´s commitment to the “principles and objectives of the OAS, including the promotion of democracy, the protection of human rights, the maintenance of peace and security, and the advancement of sustainable development throughout the hemisphere.”

Ambassador Thomas pledged to work together with the Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General and other representatives to ensure that the OAS “fulfills the objectives outlined in the Strategic Vision for a more effective and responsive organization.”

For his part, Secretary General Almagro highlighted the prominent role played by Jamaica in the Americas, and expressed his confidence that the country´s leadership role would continue.
