OAS Permanent Council Elevates Draft Resolutions to the General Assembly of Asunción

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today approved the elevation of several draft resolutions to the General Assembly of the institution, to be held from June 3 to 5 in Asunción, Paraguay.

In the last regular meeting before the event in Asunción, the Council agreed to elevate to the Assembly draft resolutions previously approved by its General Committee, Committee on Inter-American Summits Management and Civil Society Participation in OAS Activities (CISC), and on Juridical and Political Affairs (CAJP) and Hemispheric Security, as well as open resolutions destined for the General Committee of the Assembly.

In addition, the Council heard an oral presentation on the activities of the CAJP and the General Committee during the past year, as well as a report on the activities of the joint working group of the Council and the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI). Moreover, the Council elevated a draft resolution on the financing of the program budget for the Organization 2015-2016 to the General Committee.

During the meeting, the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, took the floor, as did the representatives of Canada, Peru, United States, Dominica, Brazil, Antigua and Barbuda, Panama, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Paraguay, Argentina, Honduras, Belize, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Bolivia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti and Uruguay.
