DSD-OAS launches its Second Contest for the Design of a Logo/Visual Distinctive for the Second Inter-american Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Sustainable Development

  May 27, 2010

The Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States (DSD-OAS) recently launched the DSD-OAS Logo contest, within the framework of the Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Sustainable Development that will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on October 6-8, 2010. The initiative will promote youth participation in the hemisphere, as well as the theme of the Second Ministerial Meeting: “Towards Sustainable Development in the Americas”, and will also provide youth with an opportunity to express their creativity and perspectives on major hemispheric concerns related with the themes to be addressed in the context of the Second Ministerial Meeting.

The Logo Contest aims at promoting the involvement and creativity of young undergraduate students, particularly those enrolled in a school of architecture, graphic design, art, marketing, or related areas, nationals of one of the OAS’ Member States by participating in the design of a logo/visual distinctive for the Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Sustainable Development.

The Logo Contest is part of extensive efforts by the OAS to raise awareness and knowledge and to involve youth on hemispheric challenges. Through the search for a creative proposal of a logo/visual distinctive that is expected to translate the two hemispheric concerns related with the Second Ministerial Meeting theme, youth will have a great opportunity to speak their voice.

The selected Logo will become a distinctive visual mark for the Second Ministerial Meeting, and thereby one of its most remembered elements. It will be published on the web site of the Ministerial Meeting and on the official documents and publications of the event and of the DSD that will be distributed to the OAS Members States and other participants, including the media. Furthermore, the Logo will be used in brochures, labels, stickers, packages and other visual promotion material, as required during preparatory process and the Meeting itself.

The winner will be given an official certificate of participation, and be awarded a small symbolic monetary compensation from the DSD. Also, the winner will have the opportunity to do an internship at OAS headquarters in the fall of 2010. To assess eligibility and for additional information on the Logo Contest, students should review carefully the “Contest Rules” available at the DSD-OAS Web Page at http://www.oas.org/dsd/MinisterialMeeting/SecondMeetingSustainableDevelopment_e.htm

The deadline for submission of Logos is Monday June 21, 2010 at 23:59 hrs. Eastern Standard Time (Washington, D.C. time).
