COLOMBIAN PIANIST JULIÁN MAURICIO CHICA TO PERFORM AT OAS

Colombian pianist Julián Mauricio Chica will perform in the Hall of the Americas, at Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters, next Tuesday, October 14.

The recital, sponsored by Secretary General César Gaviria and Mrs. Gaviria, is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Chica performing renditions of works by such composers as Mozart, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Scarlatti and Monti. The final segment of the concert will be devoted to Colombian composers.

Born in the city of Manizales, Julián Mauricio Chica began studying music when he was five, at the Faculty of Arts music conservatory at the University of Caldas.

In 1998 he won a fellowship to pursue advanced piano studies at the University of Representative Arts in Vienna, under Peter Efler. That same year the Manizales Conservatory awarded him the gold medal for most outstanding student.

Julián Mauricio Chica has given recitals in Dusseldorlf, Cologne, Bad Munstereifel, Frieburg, Vienna, Rome, Naples, Capri, Milan, Madrid, Santander, Barcelona, Castilla la Mancha, Salamanca, Lisbon, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Caracas and Puerto Vallarta, among others.
