General Assembly of the OAS will Debate “The Present and Future of the Organization” in June

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) determined today, in a regular meeting, that the debates of the upcoming 45th General Assembly, which will take place at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington DC, will focus on the issue “the Present and Future of the OAS.”

The 45th General Assembly will be held on June 15 and 16.

During the meeting, the representatives also debated other aspects of the annual meeting that brings together the Foreign Ministers of the member states, among them the dialogue with civil society, the draft agenda of the event, and possible dates for the events that constitute the Assembly. The Council agreed to continue debate on these issues in future meetings.

During the meeting, the representatives of Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, the United States, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took the floor, as did the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin.
