OAS Mission Calls for Political Actors to Conduct Themselves Responsibly and Consistently in Decisive Hours for Honduran Democracy
November 28, 2021
The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Honduras headed by the former President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solís, calls on the electoral authorities to conduct themselves with consistency, unity and transparency; urges political candidates and actors to have a responsible attitude and avoid early proclamations and pronouncements; and calls on citizens to wait patiently for the official results that only correspond to the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The Mission observed a day that passed acceptably and peacefully, and echoed the statement issued by the CNE this Sunday afternoon that, in the face of the massive turnout of voters, requested “the voting centers that, in application of the article 265 of the Electoral Law, they extend the electoral day until the last citizen who was in line could exercise their right to vote.”
The Mission highlights the democratic attitude of the Honduran people who participated en masse on election day. It is now up to the authorities and political actors to conduct this phase of the process with legality and democratic maturity.
