  March 31, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, expressed satisfaction following the release of the soldier Pablo Emilio Moncayo on March 30, 2010.

“We hope that in the near future the FARC will release the hostages that are still being detained and that they will be able to return to their families. Such a gesture of good will would open the doors to the negotiation of a true peace,” Insulza said.

The Secretary General congratulated the Government of Colombia, of Brazil and all those who participated in the recent hostage releases, and stated that peace is an important condition for the consolidation of democracy in Latin America and that Colombia has taken important steps in this respect.
