OAS/EOM in El Salvador Expresses Satisfaction at Completion of Scrutiny

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS), on the occasion of the second round of the presidential election held on Sunday, March 9, expresses its satisfaction at the conclusion of the final counting of votes that took place this past Tuesday and Wednesday.

The OAS/EOM recognizes the electoral authorities, political parties’ representatives, and officials of the Salvadoran State institutions involved in this process, for their work, effort and sense of responsibility, which enabled the conclusion of this important phase of the electoral process.

Similarly, the Mission stresses the role of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the country's highest electoral authority, for the organization and the transparency with which the final count procedure was carried out. In this regard, the Mission is grateful for the assistance it was granted in order to observe this process, which enabled the OAS/EOM to adequately fulfill its responsibilities.

The OAS/EOM reiterates the call upon Salvadoran political actors and institutions to calmly wait for the completion of the procedures established by law, which allow proclaiming the winner of the presidential election. The Mission informs that the post-electoral observation phase will continue until the result of the election is officially declared.
