OAS and China Offer 10 Academic Scholarships

The Chinese government and the Organization of American States (OAS) are offering 10 scholarships to students of OAS member countries to start studies in September 2012, with the objective of strengthening mutual understanding between Chinese and Latin American citizens.

These scholarships are available to citizens or residents of all thirty-four OAS Member States for undergraduate and graduate studies. Knowledge of the Chinese language is not an application requirement, yet it is highly recommended to have an advanced command of the English language. Deadline for application is April 20th.

The scholarships cover costs related to tuition, materials, accommodation, living expenses and medical insurance. The student is responsible for travel costs, some educational materials, the costs of processing their visa and some set-up fees upon arrival in China.

Applicants will be evaluated based on their merits and credentials, which include academic and/or and professional experience. Applicants must submit essays in which they explain the impact that their studies will bring to their institution, community and country.

The partnership between the OAS and the Chinese Government has to date awarded twenty-nine scholarships to students from eighteen countries in the region.
