Foreign Minister of Paraguay Elected Chairman of Assembly for the Elections for Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General

The Minister of Foreign Relations of Paraguay, Héctor Lacognata, was elected today to chair the Thirty-Ninth Special General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Minister Lacognata was nominated by the Minister of Foreign Relations of Chile, Alfredo Moreno, who said that “Paraguay has always defended de values of this Organization”. The proposal was supported by the Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the OAS, Ambassador Izben C. Williams, and was approved by acclamation.

“I take this distinction on behalf of my country, Paraguay,” said Minister Lacognata.

The Thirty-Ninth Special General Assembly of the OAS was convened for the elections for Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General of the Organization for the next five years.
