OAS WILL HAVE A PRESENCE AT UPCOMING
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ARGENTINA

  April 16, 2003

The Organization of American States (OAS) will be represented by a special mission at the presidential elections in Argentina, on Sunday, April 27.
OAS Unit for the Promotion of Democracy (UPD) Executive Coordinator Elizabeth Spehar is leading the special mission that includes elections specialist Moisés Benamor and information specialist Carlos Flores Ledesma.
This special delegation, which strictly speaking is different in nature and scope from a regular Electoral Observation Mission, will seek to familiarize itself with aspects of the election preparations and management by way of a working agenda that includes meeting directly with leaders of a variety of the country’s political institutions, for a comprehensive briefing on Argentina’s electoral system.
On election day, the Mission is scheduled to visit a number of polling stations to observe various procedures, inlcuding the opening and closing of polling stations, balloting, posting of results and vote count.
The special mission arrives in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, on April 24.
