Chief of the OAS Electoral Mission for the General Elections in Brazil Arrives in the Country

The Chief of the Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the second round of the general elections in Brazil, former Foreign Minister of Paraguay Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, arrives today in Brasilia to join the team of the OAS that will observe the October 30 elections.

The Mission, made up of 56 observers and specialists of 17 nationalities, will be present in 15 states and the Federal District and will observe the vote abroad in the United States, France and Portugal.

During its work in the country, the OAS team will meet with electoral and government authorities, political parties, representatives of civil society, and other actors, in order to learn their impressions on different aspects of the electoral process in progress.

At the end of its observation work, the OAS will present a preliminary report with findings and recommendations with the aim of contributing to the electoral system in Brazil.

This is the sixth time that the OAS has deployed an Electoral Mission in Brazil.
